Bonjour mes amis!
We are off to a great start with French classes this year. I am so excited to be back at school and share my love of French with the students. Here is what each grade has been working on these past few weeks.
Grade 3: Students are learning how to say the alphabet in French. We have been singing our favourite song and playing Hangman. Although we are using English words when playing hangman, students must use the French pronounciation when requesting a letter. Here are some online Hangman games that we have had fun using in class time:
Grade 2: Numbers and school tools have been our focus. This year, students are required to count to 59 in French and know the numbers out of sequence. A new song has been added to the webpage. Students can also visit the number page on the French website to practice with their favourites from last year. Also take some time to review the activities on the school page of the French website.
Grade 1: It is always exciting to see students respond to learning a new language for the first time. We have been practicing how to introduce ourselves (Je m'appelle...) and count to 10. Here are two songs that we like to sing along with-- Je m"appelle Funny Bear, and Une Chanson des Chiffres. Tonton, a mischievous turtle, has already become a favourite this year. Count along with Heidi while she tries to juggle some toys. Then watch Tonton play one of his favourite tricks on Heidi.
All grades: In preparation for school-wide Terry Fox Run, students have had a chance to watch Terry Fox: La Persévérance par Gregg LeRock. We like to sing the chorus together -- Je cours comme Terry, Terry Fox... (this means "I run like Terry, Terry Fox...)
