Students are having a great time singing Halloween songs and playing the Pumpkin Touch game (also known as the Koosh game). This game has challenged the students to recall the correct name for the numbers out of sequence.
Grade 1 students continue to practice counting to 10. We are becoming more familiar with the numbers 11-20. Student assessments have started. Each student is asked to say hello in French (bonjour), introduce themselves (je m'appelle ....) and count in French to whatever number they feel comfortable with. We have also started to learn the body parts by singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Feet in French. Would you believe that Tonton still needs some singing lessons? Grade 2 students have taken longer than expected to complete their petit-livre. We have decided to put these aside for now and focus on Halloween, and review numbers and body parts. By the end of grade 2, students are expected to count to 59 in French. Counting assessments will start in a couple of weeks. Grade 3 students have begun assessments. Each students has been asked to say/sing the French alphabet. The next goal is to be able to say the letters out of sequence, or choose the correct letter out of sequence. We are also reviewing numbers and counting up to 69 in French.
Welcome back. Thanks for checking out the Division 1 French blog. Grade 3 - Students continue to work on learning the French pronunciation for the alphabet letters by playing games, singing songs and checking out the links on the French webpage. Each student was given a pronunciation sheet to take home. Students are expected to say (or sing) the alphabet in order, as well as know the letters out of sequence. On Tuesday, Ms Heagy's and Ms Georg's students had an opportunity to review their French learning by visiting the French Webpage. Ms Lauf's students will have the same opportunity tomorrow (Friday). Grade 2 - Students have begun to make un petit livre (a mini-book) related to school tools. This is a predictable mini-book similar to the type of books students would have "read" in kindergarten. Picture clues and repetitive sentences help the students "read" the French. We do not use a "sounding out" strategy as French phonetics are different than English phonetics. On Friday (tomorrow), students will have the opportunity to explore the grade 2 and 3 section of the French webpage during class time. Grade 1- Repetition is the key to learning the French language. We have been acting out verbs (action words) since the first week of school (dance, turn, sleep, eat, drink, walk, run, jump). Would you believe that Tonton also likes to have fun with actions? We also like to watch and follow along with this robot who lives in a nice castle. On Friday (tomorrow), students will have the opportunity to explore the grade 1 section of the French webpage during class time. Thank you to a wonderful parent volunteer, Mrs. Jensen, who will be assisting the grade one students with logging onto our school laptops and navigating to the Grade 1 French page. Be sure to check it out at home too! |
