Thanks!!
It looks like a lot of the webpages that we enjoyed do not exist anymore. I will need to look through each topic and start the task of deleting links, and searching for new links that are just as exciting and useful. If you find anything that you think I should include on the webpage, just send me an email -- [email protected].
Thanks!!

Because of Science School and additional field trips, the grade 1 students only had one class of French over the past 2 weeks. We practiced counting to 20, played 4 corners, and watched a few of our favorite videos. Grade 2 students completed an IRIS video. Please sign into IRIS and check out your child's French speaking skills. (A few students choose to do a one-on-one interview with me, or were away when we made videos. They can catch up after Spring Break.) Feel free to leave a comment for your child under their video. I think the students did a fabulous job on this project. Grade 2 students began reviewing vocabulary words for Body Parts. Enjoy Spring Break!!! Grade 1 students were given a booklet to take home to help them prepare for their IRIS video. I am very pleased with their effort to do their best work. Please log into IRIS with your child and check out their French language speaking skills. Additional time was spent doing one-on-one interviews if students did not include all of their skills in the uploaded video. While this was taking place, students had a chance to work on their cahier or visit the French webpage. Grade 2 students spent a lot of time reviewing for their IRIS video. They had a chance to practice as a large group, individually, and with a buddy. Next week, we will be making videos for IRIS. We have been practicing the following:
We have been using a mini-book as a guide. Students are bringing this mini-book home so they can do some reviewing at home. (The mini-book can be kept at home as we have duplicates at school.) Students may not know everything in the mini-book, but are expected to know some of the items on each page. We will continue to review the vocabulary until the end of the school year. It has been a busy 2 and a half weeks at Prince of Wales school. Students and teachers were preparing for the Wangari Musical that took place on February 8th and 9th. It was fabulous and you should be very proud of your children. Students had a chance to review color words, play 4 Corners, do La dance des contraires, act out action words, and sing songs related to friendship and Valentine's Day. Each class brainstormed different topics for an IRIS video. We will begin working on booklets after the break (Teachers' Convention and Family Day). Grade 1 students continued to practice action words, colors and counting up to 20. We enjoyed doing the congo line with this song. We also enjoyed reading Pat le chat. We explored the various color games located on the webpage and were excited to have a chance to play them in class. Grade 2 students continued to review winter clothing vocabulary words, and work on their mini-booklet. We are also reviewing the action words that they learning in Grade 1. Students used computer time to practice and review numbers, clothing words and colour words.
Grade 1 students enjoyed the antics of Tonton and practiced singing the traditional French song Frère Jacques. We have practiced counting up to 16 these past 2 weeks. The teen numbers can be tricky and we will be spending the next few months practicing them. Students are also being introduced to more color words. We are also reviewing some action words by playing charades. Grade 2 students have begun to learn winter clothing vocabulary. The have begun working on a mini-booklet titled Qu'est-ce que tu porte on hiver? Grade 2 students are also doing La danse des contraires (the dance of opposites). This video is similar to a Go Noodle video except we are learning French vocabulary words related to specific dance steps: en haut ≠ en bas finit ≠ commence très mal ≠ très bien se rappelle ≠ oublié cherche ≠ trouvé viens ≠ va ici ≠ là bas méchant ≠ gentil s'asseoit ≠ se lève Grade 2 students had a chance to update their cahier while they took turns reading Voici les lumières to the teacher and a partner. Grade 1 students continued to practice color words and sing related Christmas songs. We looked at the webpage and the new links. As a special treat all students had a chance to visit the webpage on Thursday or Friday. Thank you for all of the Christmas cards and presents. Please enjoy the Winter Break and we will see everyone in January. Colours, colours, colours -- now that December is here, we see a lot of bright colours glowing on these cold winter evenings. The grade 2 students are working on a petit livre callled Voici les lumières. Both grades are learning how to sing a couple of French Santa songs, and watching the antics of Tonton. We will be singing the songs during next Wednesday's carol singing in the gym (starts 1:00 pm). Students have been encouraged to visit the webpage and practice the songs at home. Here are the quick links -- Quand le père Noël and Le gentil Père Noël. It has been another busy 2 weeks in Room 13. Each grade 1 student learned how to set up a microphone headset, practiced making a personal video in Photo Booth, and completed a video of himself/herself speaking French. Please take the time to login to Iris and check out your child's video. Grade 2 students had the opportunity to comment on their Iris video, make another video to improve on their initial video, work on their cahier covers, or do a separate interview with me. We also began practicing counting past 20 and reviewing colour words. We enjoyed playing the colour games on the French website. Grade 1 students had the opportunity to visit the French webpage this week. They are becoming more proficient with logging into the laptops, navigating to Safari and our school webpage, going to the Teacher Blogs, scrolling down, and then finding my photo and clicking on the word "website" below it. Students then have the choice of which videos or activities they wish to re-visit. Students are also encouraged to try the webpage at home. Each time a new concept is learned in class, more videos and activities are added to the Grade 1 webpage. Be sure to check back each week. Grade 2 students have completed their Iris videos and enjoyed some spirited rounds of Four Corners. We are reviewing the teen numbers and moving on to counting to 29. We also had a chance to play School Tools Bingo, and discovered that there is a lot of new objects to learn. We will be working on this topic throughout the year. |
