Wow!!! Just want to say how much I felt appreciated during Staff Appreciation Week. The Seuss theme was fabulous, I loved the different snacks that appeared in the staff room each day (especially the cotton candy and popcorn), and I was a lucky winner of a treat bag full of more surprises. The luncheon on Friday was a wonderful time to be spoiled and eat with each together. Thank you to the committee, the parents, and all of the kids!!
The grade 3 students have completed their IRIS videos. Ask your child to show you their video. Students have had a chance to watch a few of the videos and were fabulous when it came to complementing their peers. We have also discussed the "next time I do this" scenarios, with many of the students coming up with ways to improve their videos. A couple of the grade 3 classes had a chance to play School vocabulary Bingo that they missed while absent during their Open Minds week. We have also begun talking about using puppets for "conversation skits". This is a wonderful challenge that allows the students to use the French they have learned to create a simple skit. It takes a lot of cooperation and practice to get it just right. The grade 3 students have also been learning to say the days of the week in French. Check out the French website for a new link to new songs -- le calendrier
The grade 2 students have also completed their IRIS videos. You can ask your child to show you what they have done. I am very impressed with the results of this project. As one student said, "It helps me practice speaking correctly in French." Grade 2 students are starting a new unit related to clothing.
The grade 1 students have been learning to say different animals in French. Check out the new link on the webpage. There are a couple of songs and some games to help practice their speaking and listening skills. Next week, each grade 1 students will be making a French video to upload to IRIS. They are using a "thinking booklet" (kept at school) to help them remember what they can include in their video. Here is a scanned version of the booklet.

You can make a booklet for practicing at home by downloading and printing the attached pdf (back to back), cutting it along the center horizontal line, putting one half on top of the other half, and folding the pages in half. (Page 1 is "Bonjour, j'mappelle", pg 2 is Bonjour Mes Amis, pg 3 is counting, pg 4 is Happy Birthday, pg 5 is colors ( color in the crayons), pg 6 is school tools, pg 7 is animals, pg 8 is body parts.) Have fun!
